Who writes The Dad System?
I’m C.H. Kwon — a dad of four boys, ages 9 down to 2, living in Battambang, Cambodia, where my wife and I serve as missionaries. I write about the systems that keep our house running: morning routines, discipline, screen time, chores, and everything that breaks along the way.
Wait — you really live in Cambodia?
Really. We moved our family of six to Battambang, and a lot of what you’ll read here happens against that backdrop — school in English, Korean at home, Khmer in the neighborhood, and four boys treating all of it as one big playground.
Why do you call your sons “Number 1” through “Number 4”?
Privacy. They didn’t choose to have a dad who writes about bedtime standoffs and potty training on the internet, so they get to grow up without their names attached to any of it. The stories are real; the names stay ours.
Do these systems actually work?
They work in our house, most of the time, after a lot of failed versions you also get to read about. I’m not a parenting expert and don’t claim to be — I’m a dad of four sharing what survived contact with real kids. Take what’s useful, adapt it, and expect to modify everything for your own family.
Where do I start?
The morning routine piece is where this blog started, and it’s still the best picture of how we think about systems. If you’re deep in tantrum or discipline territory, start with the discipline system instead.
Are you religious?
Yes — we’re a missionary family, and faith shapes how we parent. This blog stays focused on the practical side of raising kids, but I don’t hide where the convictions come from.
